It’s Gas Safety Week #GSW and for the next few days we’re proud to be supporting this important annual awareness campaign.

Now in its fifth year, the initiative is co-ordinated by Gas Safe Register, the official list of gas engineers who are legally allowed to work on gas.

So, as authorised Which? Trusted Traders, we’ll be using this high profile event to issue hints and tips about how to stay safe in the 23 million gas fuelled homes in the UK.

We all know how easy it is to put off – or conveniently forget – to carry out vital safety checks on your gas appliances, particularly when they seem to be working perfectly well. But badly fitted and poorly maintained equipment can cause gas leaks, fires and explosions.

Then there is the very real threat posed by carbon monoxide poisoning. This is a lethal gas which you can neither taste, nor smell – but it can kill without warning.

Just follow these simple steps and you will be helping to protect yourselves, your loved ones and those who you are responsible for.

*Check your gas appliances every year.
*Check your engineer is Gas Safe registered.
*Check your engineer’s Gas Safe Register ID card
*Check for warning signs your appliances aren’t working correctly
*Know the six signs of carbon monoxide poisoning – headaches, dizziness, breathlessness, nausea, collapse and loss of consciousness.
*Have an audible carbon monoxide alarm
